Monitoring tunnels and mine workings
Monitoring deformation, settlement, and structural condition during construction and operation.

What we monitor
- Tunnel lining deformation
- Ground displacement
- Settlement of nearby structures
From on-site measurements to information for staff
Parameters and instrument selection depend on the structure, operating conditions, and existing systems.
On-site monitoring
We select measurement points and instruments for the changes being monitored.
Collection and transmission
We connect measurements to the shared system using the available communication and infrastructure.
Monitoring and events
We set up archives, change visualization, and alerts for responsible staff.
Purpose
Monitoring is used during tunnel excavation and operation to track the lining, surrounding ground and buildings affected by the works. Measurements help detect hazardous deformation before damage develops.
Monitored parameters
- Horizontal and vertical ground movement
- Groundwater level and pressure
- Settlement, tilt and cracks in nearby buildings
- Stress and deformation of the tunnel lining
- Deviation of the tunnel axis from its designed position
- Changes in cross-section shape and local crack opening
Monitored assets
- Tunnels and their linings
- Underground workings
- Deep cable collectors
- Ground and buildings affected by excavation
Possible system components
The following families and instruments are examples. The final selection is defined by the project.
Settlement sensorsHSSG Hydrostatic level sensorMeasures vertical displacement and structural settlement from changes in liquid levels in connected vessels. Suitable for foundations, hydraulic structures, and geotechnical monitoring.
Settlement sensorsLNGG Displacement sensorMonitors movement along two or three coordinates. The measurement system includes a laser emitter, target, and electronic unit.
Triaxial joint metersCMMG-D02-50 (±25 mm) Automatic joint meterAutomatically measures joint or crack opening along three axes. Monitors relative movement between parts of a structure.
Strain gaugesRSS-R Rebar stress sensorMonitors strain in reinforced-concrete reinforcement. Incorporated into the rebar cage by welding or couplings.
Strain gaugesSVWG-12-EC Embedded vibrating-wire strain gaugeEmbedded vibrating-wire sensor for measuring concrete strain. Tracks strain changes and temperature at the installation point.
Strain gaugesSVWG Vibrating-wire strain gaugeVibrating-wire sensor for structural strain monitoring. Analog and digital versions include temperature measurement.Let’s discuss your task
